Description of the Structure:
The five story structure is of masonry construction with built-up roof. The foundation is
a cast concrete and masonry stem wall without a suitable footing.
Need for
Underpinning:
Excavation was required adjacent to this structure for new building. The engineer required
that supplemental foundation support be installed to prevent settlement and possible
structural failure of existing buildings prior to the adjacent soils being excavated.
Soil Description:
Soil tests revealed that bearing stratum was available at approximately 80 feet below
basement level.
ATLAS Product
Installed:
Because no spread footing was encountered, ATLAS 2-Piece Plate Piers were chosen
for this project. The grout filled pier pipe was 4 inch diameter with a wall thickness of
0.219 inch. |
