Dry Tortugas National Park

Dry Tortugas Helical Pile Installation

Accessible only by boat or seaplane, 70 miles west of Key West lies the remote Dry Tortugas National Park; a military fort built during the civil war which eventually housed a prison. Known as the home of magnificent Fort Jefferson; it is surrounded by water, vibrant coral reefs and protected marine / bird life.

Access to the fort was the biggest reason why helicals were used. Existing was a seven foot-wide bridge that had both width and weight capacity challenges. In addition, there site headroom restrictions. A traditional auger rig [required for a concrete solution] could not have been used due to its size, vibration, noise disruption, weight, and mobilization requirements. CHANCE® Helical Piles were an ideal solution.
